INSTITUTE OF ANIMAL BIOTECHNOLOGY
Research staff at the institute is mainly involved in education of students at all levels of education, transfer of knowledge and intensive cooperation with agricultural producers, processing industry and related institutions. Scientific activities are also part of the institute and they are oriented to: technology of breeding of domestic animals (cattle, horses, sheep, goats, pigs and poultry), research activities in biodiversity of animal genetic resources, nutrient requirements of domestic animals, fish, game and bees, technology of livestock, production and processing of animal products, applied biotechnology and molecular biology in livestock production, animal health and welfare and food hygiene.
Despite these activities, members of the institute are actively involved in: adaptation of different selection models of population and quantitative genetics of domestic animals, introduction of contemporary breeding systems for domestic animals, new technological solutions for animal nutrition and programming of the content of certain animal products (eggs, milk and meat); methods of assessment of nutrition value of animal feed and optimal composition of feed and feed mixtures, introduction of new dairy and meat processed products, enlargement of the assortment of domestic products, protection of raw materials against decay, improving quality and standards; diary process design, application of different types of additives into meat products; application of molecular markers in selection and reproduction of domestic animals, animal husbandry design, and permanent training courses in sanitation (and sanitation equipment) in livestock production.
