FOOD INSTITUTE

The Food Institute was established in 2010. The institute has 9 employees, seven of whom are involved in teaching and research, and two are senior laboratory assistants. The employees of the Institute participate in the realization of the teaching and educational activity, scientific research activity, professional and applied activity, as well as a larger number of activities of wider interest. Within the Institute, work is carried out in several laboratories, in which practical teaching is carried out for the students of the first cycle, and scientific research work with the students of the second and third cycle studies. In this manner, students acquire practical skills and competencies, in order to be competitive in the labor market in the field of food quality and safety. The employees of the Institute participate in the implementation of numerous national and international research projects. The obtained research results are presented at international events and are also published in renowned international scientific journals. The students of the master’s and doctoral studies are also involved in the activities within the projects.
The employees of the Food Institute and the students carry out study stays abroad within various programmes and thus develop the Faculty’s international cooperation. Also, applied activities are performed within the Institute and cooperation is established with institutions from the country and abroad in the field of food quality and safety.

STUDY PROGRAMS
BSc studies - Undergraduate studies (8 semesters): FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY
By completing the courses of the Food Quality and Safety study programme, students acquire knowledge and skills from agricultural and natural sciences, which deal with topics related to food quality and safety. Students gain knowledge about the origin of food, food production, quality and safety parameters, food processing methods and technologies, as well as principles of food quality and safety. Students acquire the basic skills for practical work in the faculty laboratories, in order to further apply the acquired knowledge in various laboratories and other institutions in the economy, according to the needs of the labor market. Upon completion, students obtain the title of B.Sc. in Agricultural Engineering.

MSc studies - Master’s studies (2 and 4 semesters):
FOOD QUALITY AND SAFETY
In the second cycle of studies, students acquire the basics of scientific research work through mandatory and optional courses. Given that food quality and safety are segments that are constantly current and developing, there is a need and interest in acquiring knowledge and skills necessary for this sector. The Food Quality and Safety study programme emphasizes the importance of the link between science and practice, and connects science, farmers, industry, the laws and consumers. The trends in primary agricultural production, innovations in the food industry, the production of functional
and organic food are constantly followed, while the main goal is to obtain quality and safe products for wide consumption.
Upon completion, students obtain the title of Master of Agricultural Sciences - Food Quality and Safety.
